bamboo_massageSwedish Relaxation Massage

Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West. If it’s your first time at the spa or you don’t get massage very often, Swedish massage is the perfect massage for you.

Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

The four common strokes of Swedish massage are:

  • Effleurage: a smooth, gliding stroke used to relax soft tissue
  • Petrissage: the squeezing, rolling, or kneading that follows effleurage
  • Friction: deep, circular movements that cause layers of tissue to rub against each other, helping to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue
  • Tapotement: a short, alternating tap done with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand

Ashiatsu Massage

In ashiatsu, the practitioner uses their feet to deliver treatment. The name comes from the Japanese, ashi for foot and atsu for pressure.

Benefits of Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage:

  • Relieves tight muscles
  • Reduces stress
  • Deepens relaxation
  • Stimulates your body’s own self-healing capabilities

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. The premise behind hot stone massage therapy is that the direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist access to their deeper muscle layers. Combining hot stone protocols with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

Thai Massage

Thai massage has many benefits for the individual. It uses the gentle pressure on energy lines and the yoga-like stretching to relax the whole body on a deeper level. This deeper level of relaxation improves the individuals’ personal outlook, and their emotional status. Deep relaxation has been shown to promote a deeper, more restorative night’s sleep as well. This deeper sleep allows the body to heal itself physical, and let you feel more refreshed upon awakening.

Trigger Point Massage

A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it “triggers” a painful response. But a trigger point is more than a tender nodule. It affects not only the muscle where the trigger point is located, but also causes “referred pain” in tissues supplied by nerves. Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibers. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. The therapist will locate and deactivate them using finger pressure.

One of the advantages of Trigger Point Therapy when compared to other massage therapies that are used to manage and treat pain is that it identifies and works very specific points of the body — those locations where the pain occurs to provide the best method of treatment for the pain.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The lymphatic massage is a delicate, light form favoring the lymph flow. It is based on light, rhythmic and constant movements, only touching the skin, with an almost non-perceptible pressure. Being so fine, the patient may perceive it as useless, but after two-three sessions, its benefits can be seen. A lymph massage session lasts at least for one hour.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is best used (for):

  • Against cellulite. It works best in earlier stages, even if it is effective in every moment.
  • Swollen, heavy and edematose feet.
  • Pregnancy and PMS syndrome. The drainage is very effective in both cases, but as a preventive method.
  • Scars. The lymph draining has a “planning” effect on the scar, even in older ones, because it activates the lymphocytes, involved in reconstructing the tissue.
  • Acne and couperisis. The depurative and draining effect of this technique decreases gradually the inflammation and the edemas, favoring a more rapid cure.
  • Surgery. Lymph drainage is effective for getting rid of edemas and hematomas and boosting tissue regeneration following a surgery.

Reflexology

Reflexology increases the flow of energy, increases the circulation and stimulates the digestive system. It is so effective that most people are nearly always thirsty, as toxins are eliminated from the body. It is also recommended that you do not drink alcohol in the 24 hours before or after a session, as the effects of the alcohol can be multiplied. It is also inadvisable to have reflexology if you have a pacemaker fitted, or if you have diabetes.
